Shanghai
The ‘city on the sea’ is situated at the mouth of the river Yangtze and is the most populated city in China (it has reached 20 million inhabitants).
Economy
Shanghai is the most important financial and commercial centre in China. It’s port, the most important in the country, is one of the busiest in the world together with those of Singapore and Rotterdam. The economic energy of the city is well represented by the numerous modern skyscrapers in the financial quarters of Pudong, which is very similar to the major American and European financial centres and hosts the offices of many foreign companies. Pudong is proof of the historical vocation of the city, the role of Shanghai as the window overlooking the whole of China with its dynamic and emerging economy.
