The Triennale di Milano is the Italian institute of architecture, decorative and visual arts, design, fashion and audiovisual production; it is a cultural centre that organises and produces exhibitions, conferences, film reviews and itinerant fairs.
Born in 1923 as a panorama of modern decorative and industrial arts, with the purpose of stimulating the relationship between industry, the manufacturing sectors and applied arts, the Triennale quickly revealed itself as a mirror of the artistic and architectural culture in Italy. The Permanent Collection of Italian Design of the Triennale is unique in Italy in terms of the quality and quantity of its heritage: 1000 objects of design, 300 models by Giovanni Sacchi, 2500 drawings by Alessandro Mendini and 800 graphic artifacts.

The collection constitutes a basis for exhibitions on Italian Design, shown both at the Triennale as well as in the rest of the world. The aim is to shed new light on the history of Italian industrial production and it is the focal point of the Museum of Design which the Triennale opened to the public in 2007.
